Simple White Bread Recipe
A delicious recipe for making simple German white bread at home.
Ingredients
- 400g wheat flour
- 200g rye flour
- 420g water
- 20g olive oil
- 15g salt
- 2g yeast
Instructions
- Knead all the ingredients. Cover and let it rest for 12 to 16 hours at room temperature.
- Preheat the oven to around 230°C.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape the bread.
- For baking without a Dutch Oven: Place the bread in the oven, steam for 20 minutes. Release the steam and bake for an additional 20 to 40 minutes until browned.
- For baking with a Dutch Oven: Place the bread in the Dutch Oven, then bake covered for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for another 20 minutes.
- Afterward: Turn off the oven and let the bread rest in the warm oven for another 30 minutes.
