1. Remove the Protective Coating

Before seasoning, it’s important to remove any protective coating that may be on the pan. Use soap, water, and steel wool or a stiff brush to scrub the entire surface of the pan. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.

2. Preheat Your Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). This high temperature will help the oil bond to the pan’s surface.

3. Apply the Oil

Pour a small amount of plant-based oil onto the pan. Use a paper towel or clean cloth to spread the oil evenly over the entire surface, including the handle and the bottom. Make sure to coat the pan with a thin layer of oil.

4. Wipe Off Excess Oil

Using a clean paper towel or cloth, wipe off any excess oil. The pan should have a thin, even coating of oil without any puddles.

5. Bake the Pan

Place a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom rack of your oven to catch any drips. Place the cast iron pan upside down on the middle rack. Bake the pan for 1 hour.

6. Cool the Pan

After 1 hour, turn off the oven and let the pan cool inside the oven. This will allow the seasoning to set properly.

7. Repeat if Necessary

For a stronger seasoning, you can repeat steps 3 to 6 a few more times. Each layer of seasoning will build up and create a more durable non-stick surface.
